HSBC Celebrates Lunar New Year Across the U.S.

To commemorate the Year of the Fire Horse, China’s Lunar New Year was celebrated throughout key HSBC U.S. hubs, from New York to Seattle and from Buffalo to San Francisco.

The festivities took place over several days and included exclusive client events as well as eclectic and unique moments for employees and leaders to come together.

It all underscored HSBC’s commitment to celebrating culture and honoring the 160-year legacy of the bank.

Lunar New Year celebrations took place all around HSBC offices in the US and through client events.

At an evening event in midtown Manhattan, clients gathered at Hutong NYC, one of the city’s most highly acclaimed Northern Chinese restaurants. Key leaders in attendance included Racquel Oden, the event’s host and U.S. Head of International Wealth and the Private Bank.

“I have the distinct pleasure of leading this incredible business and team,” noted Oden in her remarks to clients. “We know there’s a lot of places you could have chosen to be. Thank you for celebrating with us as we celebrate this incredible Lunar New Year!”

Other notable HSBC attendees included Jose Rasco, CIO for the Private Bank, Jeff Papa, U.S. Head of Distribution for Wealth, Premier and Private Banking and Didi Nicolas, Regional Market Head – North.

Jason Henderson, US CEO, Ida Liu, CEO of HSBC Global Private Bank, and members of the US Operating Committee celebrated with colleagues at the HSBC NYX Hudson Yards Office.

HSBC’s celebration of the New Year was also highlighted by a day of lion parades throughout U.S. headquarters at the Spiral in New York City.

Overall, these dances are meant to invite luck, wealth, happiness and to commence a joyful, communal fresh start.

“This is the year of the fire horse,” explained USA CEO Jason Henderson during an address to employees taking part in the festivities. “The year of the horse brings energy, resilience, and progress. Fire brings the passion and ambition.”

Jason, flanked by a pair of lions, reiterated that all the attributes of the Lunar New Year are especially applicable to HSBC as the bank enters 2026 with fresh excitement, tremendous optimism, and new opportunity.

Several members of the HSBC US Operating Committee were also on hand to distribute lucky red envelopes to attendees.

As part of the tradition, employees also “fed” the lions lettuce as the greens ritual is meant to bring prosperity and luck to the business hosting the dance.

May the year of the horse bring you health, prosperity and good luck!
